Stand with Immigrants

If you are outraged by cruel executive actions and policies that tear families apart—often without due process—you are not alone. People of faith from across traditions are coming together to stand with immigrants and communities at risk.

We are gathering in front of the U.S. Capitol to call for immigration policies that reflect our deepest values: the God-given dignity of every person, the sanctity of family, and the need for thriving, united communities.

We are calling on Congress to:

  •     Enact humane and compassionate immigration policies

  •     Keep ICE agents out of churches, schools, and hospitals

  •     Guarantee due process and equal protection under the law

Sojourners is one of 29 co-sponsors from The Washington Interfaith Staff Community (WISC) that are co-organizing a series of faithful witness vigils at the Capitol every Wednesday through the end of April. These multi-faith vigils call on Congress to exercise greater moral courage in upholding its Article 1 powers and stop executive overreach.

Our nation faces an escalating threat of a constitutional crisis fueled by the Trump administration’s overreach and unconstitutional actions. A lack of leadership in Congress has allowed this crisis to grow, as it cedes its role as a co-equal branch of government. The faith community has a unique opportunity to raise a prophetic and pastoral call, urging Congressional leaders to act to protect its role as a check and balance and advance the common good.

These vigils will remain nonpartisan while speaking truth to power, highlighting what’s at stake and the communities already harmed. They feature faith leaders from diverse traditions offering inspirational prayers, reflections, and calls to faithful action.
