With the recently passed House budget reconciliation bill, we’re facing a potential crisis in our ability to address hunger. Nearly 11 million people, including 4 million children, would lose access to food assistance. As people of faith, we must speak out to ensure that our neighbors don’t go hungry. Jesus said in Matthew 25:35, “For I was hungry and you gave me food.” In that spirit, we believe a faithful nation must never balance its budget by denying food to those already facing hardship. It is critical we join the call to keep our most vulnerable neighbors fed. Tell the Senate to reject the cuts to SNAP in the bad House budget bill! It is with this divine inspiration in mind that we stand forcefully against a budget which would shift the burdens of cost so that millions of people are left without the ability to feed themselves. The current bill would eliminate exemptions for work requirements in areas which are already dealing with high levels of unemployment. This is not fair, and it is not morally acceptable. We must act now to save SNAP! Tell your Senators to reject the cuts to food assistance! We ask that you join us now in emailing your Senators and demanding they reject the cuts to SNAP in the House’s bad budget bill. We need to make sure we’re showing the love and care for our neighbors, in the policies we pass which can help or harm them. Join me today in making your voice heard. In Faith and Resistance,
