The budget reconciliation bill that the House passed last week puts millions at risk of going hungry by slashing food assistance for nearly 11 million people, including 4 million children. As people of faith, we are compelled to speak out. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 25:35, “For I was hungry and you gave me food”—a call that demands we protect the most vulnerable, not abandon them. A faithful nation does not solve its financial problems by denying food to those in need.
This bill would unfairly punish communities already facing high unemployment by ending vital exemptions and tightening requirements for SNAP. That is not just policy—it is a moral failure. Now is the time to act. Our voices matter, and together we can defend the dignity and wellbeing of our neighbors.
